Whats a basic food checklist when going camping. I know it depends on the number people going, their tastes, and the type of cooking that is going to be used. But what are the very basic provisions, food wise, when going camping. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Also depends on the style of camping, and how long you wil be going for.
Basics are hotdogs(buns/ketchup/mustard/relish etc.)
Hamburgers (cheese,buns,ketchup,mustard etc.)
Steak
Pre made salads i.e. pasta salad, fruit salad.
Soda/Beer
Sandwich makings (favorite meat, or PB&J, great for hikes or backpack lunches)
Chips (i reccommend pringles for easy carry along)
Of course Smores fixins
Pie Irons (Bread, butter, meats and cheeses, pie filling, or fruit and powdered sugar)
Potatoes are always easy to make and easy to store
mac and cheese is a favorite of my family
Seasonings or Salt and Pepper
Trail Mix
Fig Newtons
Ho Hos (or any Little Debbie treats)
Don't forget to keep perishables (meats and dairy products) closest to the ice if using a cooler for food storage.
The best food you can get while camping is food you "catch" yourself. Try some fresh fish with lemon zest seasoning, or spice it up with cajun seasoning.
This should start your list decently

Thanks alot man, really appreciate somebody taking the time to respond to my questions. I really liked the soda/beer part of your list. The reason why I asked this question was because of the first time I went camping, my friend was in charge of the food. And man, was he unprepared. he brought along stuff that was bizarre to make in the woods, so we ended up buying some food along some shack that was on the forest preserve. The thing was, this "shack" was a two hour walk from were we were. Thanks again!!!

When Susan and I travel, we take:
For breakfasts:
Granola and mix with flavored yogurt/s
Instant, individual flavored oatmeal
Coffee
Bagels, flavored cream cheese, p/butter
Fresh/dried fruit
Lots of water for hydration
For Lunch/s:
Whole wheat/flour tortillas to make "wrap" w/ whatever filler we bring.
Dried salami
Cheese varieties
Variety of nuts
Fresh/dried fruit
Newtons: Fig, Apricot, blueberry, etc
Dark chocolate covered raisins, or just Dark chocolate.
Lots of water for hydration
For Dinner:
Usually some sort of pasta dish, the ingredients we have prepackaged into individual meal zip lok bags prior to the trip - for minimizing work, effort, clean up.
Coffee/tea: a decadent cookie or dark chocolate thingy
For Later................. Wine, brandy, whatever ;-)
Yes, general camping foods were mentioned by others, but this is kind of what Susan and I focus on.
Hope this helps some....Chuck
