  • Algonqin Provincial Park suggestions

    Hello ALL!

Myself and my girlfriend are trying to plan a road trip going up through Vermont from Boston and into Canada. We're hoping to get ourselves to the Algonquin Provincial Forest to do some camping, maybe canoeing if possible.

Anyone have any suggestions for routes to take? If you know what prices are like too, that'd be great!

We're planning this trip to happen in the month of August 2010

    Thanks a lot!

Get yourself onto Hwy 401.........just GPS it if you have to.
Hwy 401 runs east-west pretty much from almost Montreal to Windsor.
Whichever way you come, in the middle of Toronto is hwy 400...it runs North-South.
Get on hwy 400 and go North........hwy 400 splits and carries on as Hwy 11.............stay on 11 for about 2 hours....you will see signs.
You can't miss it......Algonquin Provincial Park is a bit bigger than Delaware.
    Any more info, just post!

Try to plan your drive through Toronto on the 401 so that it is not during the rush hours times - that highway through Toronto can be a mess in the morning and evening.

But getting on the 401, and then the 400 up to 11 is the most direct route.

If you decide to visit Ottawa though, getting to Algonquin might be more enjoyable from there rather than going through Toronto.

depending on how far into the park you want to go, you will be very wise to carry a PLB.....also tell someone in authority where you are going to be.
There are a few small roads that go into Algonquin, but for the most part, it is dense forest...you can get lost quite easily.
