  • Winter Camping Tips

    Howdy,
Many people enjoy the great outdoors, especially in winter. When camping in winter, there are few things that you need to keep in mind. Here are some winter camping tips that you will find extremely useful the next time you decide to take out your camping gear.

Remember, it is important to keep warm when camping during winter. Make sure that you wear layered warm clothing. This will not only allow you the freedom to adapt to the clothes, it will also help to keep your body warm. Layered clothing is especially important when spending time outside where you are at the mercy of the elements and do not have access to your wardrobe.

It is best to have three layers of clothes. The innermost layer should be insulating to keep the body warm, while the outermost should be protective to help you avoid the wind and snow.
Make sure that you do not carry cotton clothes with you when camping in winter. While cotton is ideal for summer months, it will not protect you in winters. If you get wet, the cotton clothes will take a very long time to dry and during that time not only will you be wet, but also cold and extremely uncomfortable. So, make sure your clothes are made from synthetic fibers, or wool!

Just as you are caring for your body, spend time caring for your feet. Nothing is worse than having cold and freezing feet when you are out camping. So, make sure that you wear warm socks and boots that are waterproof. Do not wear multiple socks. This will affect your blood circulation and will do nothing to keep your feet warm. But make sure that you carry extra socks with you in case the ones you are wearing become wet. Also, keep your head covered. Your body loses maximum heat from the heat and when camping, it is important to preserve body heat. So, wear a balaclava to protect not just your head, but also your face and neck.

If anyone else has great advice on winter camping here's the thread to post up. I can't remember everything, plus plan my own winter camping trips too! Thanks in advance for your tips!
