Mora #2, with a leather belt sheath made for it that carries a fire steel. Just looked up my knife on Amazon, price went up $4. I got my Mora #2s for 12 bucks. Leatherman squirt on my keychain and an old Ka-Bar in my tool box for batoning wood and Rambo reenactments.

Re: What is the best kind of all-round knife for camping?

I've been collecting knives for many years, so I carry a wide variety depending on the task. But currently my EDC is a Remington R1128 two-blade folder. It always rides in a belt pouch. For many years, including my ten years in the military, I carried a Buck 317 two-blade folder. It was discontinued many years ago though Shrade and other companies still make the same style.
In the field I carry any one of several mid-sized fixed blade knives. Lately a smallish Winchester-brand knife, but I also favor an old "Commando Tanto" 5" blade knife I bought during my Navy time. The thick tanto-style blade holds an edge very well and I once ised it as a chisel to open a couple of Russian steel 'spam cans' of rifle ammo. The blade remained sharp and undamaged. It's proven itself on many outings, for camping, hunting, fishing, etc. Pretty good for an 'el cheapo'...... ;-)
Longtime Motorcycle Camper. Getting away from it all on two wheels!

i prefer small fixed blades over folding knives,
i also dont have the budget for a good high end brand knife :(
my current knife is a winchester fixed blade,
i know winchester knives are a mass produced label, but this knife feels good in the hand, has a nice balance and has suit me well.
          similar to this

i also have many other knives and usually also carry folding knives as back up in my packs,
as a freight forwarder, am often in warehouses opening cartons, straps, etc.. so even when i am wearing a suit i may have a folding knife on my belt,
my everyday work knife is a marlin 4" with a curved blade,
cheap knife but has held up very well,

it all comes down to preference. I have a few different blades that never leave my pack. A Cold Steel Kukri, a cold steel mini tanto, gerber hatchet, gerber ez skinner and junk gerber multi tool that Ive had and used for years and years.
