  • Camping comfort: improved sleeping conditions

    Hey everyone,

I am a life scout working on my Eagle project and I am also working on a project in my Engineering class though Project Lead the Way. We are exploring the design process so I compiled a simple survey to explore potential markets.

I am in the preliminary planning stages of solving a common problem, sliding between sleeping bags and sleeping pads

If you camp and have a minute please take the time to fill out my survey

There are several products out there now that you might like to use as a reference. For example, there are sleeping bags made with a sleeve to put a pad into.

I use a cot when I tent camp and put the sleep cushion inside a thin Ozark trail sleeping bag that is like a velour blanket. That keeps the actual sleeping bag from slipping off.

        Good for you!

Just because there are already solutions out there for a problem, doesn’t mean you can’t come up with an improved way of preventing/solving the problem.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I have and will continue to explore existing solutions. There is no solution for all situations so if you have other prefered methods and wouldnt mind sharing... i would love to listen.

          Thanks,
          Chris

Most slipping-off the pad is due to overinflation of the pad. Let the air out until when sleeping on your side, your hip doesn't touch the bottom of the tent. There are inexpensive remedies like sprays and slip-over bands, but we found the problem was too much air inside the pad. If you're putting the pad over a cot, sans Mr. Buddy or electric blankets, you might want to take a read of Colin Fletcher's Complete Walker, the Boy Scout Manual, or US MilSpec docs to understand why you're not getting a good nights' sleep...:o

And so, they end up hating the truth for the sake of the object which they have come to love instead of the truth.”

:D Also a good point. I can't get the new mouse traps, the ones that have what looks like a pad of cheese on them, to save my life.

Thanks for the input everyone. Yea, there are definately a few existing solutions but there is almost always room for innovation. If anybody has any other methods that they dont mind sharing i would be interested in hearing them.

                  Thanks again,
