  • Lake Tahoe campground advice

Does anyone have any advice for an extended camping trip(3-4weeks) in Lake Tahoe for a pop up? Specifically, campground advice. I have kids and dogs. Thank you!

    Ktkenyon,
Lake Tahoe has been loved to death for decades. Timing is everything. If you can avoid the summer season and the winter ski season your chances of a good experience are much better. The Lake is crowded and expensive. The west shore has the best campgrounds. Sugar Pine Pt is nice in October. By that time the kokanee salmon are spawing in Taylor Creek. There is an underwater viewing chamber and often bears are eating the salmon. With the aspens turned it is a great spectacle to see.

Rent bikes in Tahoe City and ride along the Truckee R. Go on the sunset cruise aboard the big catamarran. Keep an eye out for concerts outdoors. Maybe rent some kayaks. Good restaurants. Lots of great hiking and mountain biking to get away from the large amounts of people near the lake. Few people actually venture out onto the water. It is big and cold.
