  • Alaska trip update!

Alright, fellas! So far my g/f and I have spent a grand total of 2719.45 for gear for Alaska!!! I still need a few more items. A chain saw, axe, gas cans...I'm looking at a place just North-West of Fairbanks about a couple hundred miles... sooo super stoked!!!

Did I mention I want to build a log cabin while I'm out there?

        HAHA! Homesteading! LOL!

I don't have any set plans for the cabin yet. It will depend on the wood available so I'll have to play it by ear!

            Howdy Rich,
As I said before, when I was in the Army Ranger Corps and stationed for a short 19 months at Ft. Wainwright in Fairbanks. Me and this friend of mine decided over the 4th of July 1976 to thumb up to Wiseman, Alaska which is just about 200 miles north of Fairbanks. We then went in to the Endicott Mountains which has now become Gates of the Artic National Park and Preserve. Then it was as wild as could be. You throw in your fishing line and almost everytime, trout was caught. We set a trap or two and got a racoon(good meat). We had a great time. So I hope your trip will as successful as mine was. But I didn't have a girl then so by the sound of things I agree with the other guys that have already spoken: You are homesteading! That's great! You gotta stay connected here and let us now all about it. Also back then the Al-Can Hwy was still mostly mud, then only a few sections of pavement. When I drove up to report to Wainwright, it took all of ten days of blood, mud and tears to get my "scout" up their. Now it's all paved. So good luck! Adios!

Hughes is about a hundred miles east of the Dalton... and I don't think there's a road that gets there...

Just getting there will be an adventure.
I hope you keep a good journal of this trip along with the pictures, as the preparation and getting there would made a good book.

when my access was from sat. the dish pointed south( Azimuth? unknown) the wires go to the sat. modem. The modem and your lap top would get there power from the genset. You would run an ethernet cable (cat5e) from the modem to the laptop.
I am sure I missed something but whoever you had a dish from would tell you how to set it up.
