Newb to camping

Hey All, planning a trip with my wife and my 9 month old. I am looking for a family friendly camping location which is not crowded and preferably lake side so I can use my zodiac inflatable boat for some fishing. I never been before and would like come key pointers and maybe a small check list. I looked at some check lists online and it looked like I would need a moving truck to fit everything they list. I do not mind paying for a location but I would like to spend as little as possible for the gear.

I would focus mainly on a tent. Make sure it is durable/water resistant and breatheable. Thats the main thing IMO.
