    Howdy,

The first week after Memorial Weekend this year we decided to camp at Duck Creek Campground, in the Dixie National Forrest east of Cedar City, Utah. The elevation there is about 8400' and there is a small lake and stream that has trails for walking and paths designed for RTVs. Cedar City is only a 3 hour drive North of Las Vegas and already this summer we in Vegas were getting record heat. When the temperature reaches 105 degrees, the weather service stamps the day as an excessive heat day. Already this summer was no different from any other summer and we decided to take a short week after the rush of the Memorial weekend.

To our surprise, Duck Creek had had a long cold winter with record snows and cool temps. We were very happy to find a place, however most Utahans weren't into the camping thing yet and they don't like to camp when it's chilly. That's too bad, because we do love the cold! As I always say when someone wants to visit Las Vegas is: "You can't shovel sunshine!"

Once in Cedar City go to Utah Sate Hwy 14 and drive 28 miles up and into the Dixie National Forrest. There are over 160 sites, plenty for RVers and more for trailer, 5th wheels and tenters. We had a wonderful time enjoying the cool air, relaxing, driving down to Zion, visited Bryce Canyon National Park too. We like camping!
