Howdy Chemisty formula man or you're into water,

In Pagosa, there is Bear Mountain, across SR84 that has been wonderful back in the 1980s. Are you lookin' for wild things in northern CO or in Southern. Heck, dude pack your bags and come out west, to Vegas, plenty dirt & dust and even the tables in Vegas can git a bit wild at times! Over the three day holiday in a few weeks we are camping to Whitney Pockets and the ghost town of Gold Butte, Nevada. We are passing by "Devil's Throat" and will be only on dirt roads for at least 120 miles, one way! Good luck there in Pagosa, hot springs and a snow town even in May, I'm told.

I am into water, I own a pond business and i like water activities.

There is a place in Pagosa I used to go to as a kid, It goes like this,, "just before you get to the actual town, there is a cutoff/dirt road to a campground/forest, take that for a few miles and you will see "the spot" on your right near the river."

Cant wait to see it now,,, its been about 15 years.
I am looking for a place in northern Colorado. same style.

Snow town huh? hmm.. dang, i used to go in August as a kid so it will be way different i am sure.
As long as its not freezing cold and snowing the whole time,, i don't mind.

Me and a few buddies went fishing in Bishop last October. got hit by a "freak" storm, it snowed about 24 hours and 6 inches of snow before we left. it was 0 when we woke up... not fun... didn't even fish...

Tables and me don't mix.. they always seem to take my money.. although our last planned stop of this trip is Lake Tahoe for at least a full day.

more than 4, less that 6. Sorry. Better than seeing a bunch of man on man porn posted on an hourly basis. That's what was getting posted before. :(

                Roughin it

                Howdy n2h20,
Yep, sir it took me awhile too before I earned a blessing to post immediately. Don't blame no one here, like the honcho says it's better to be safe than sorry. And then sometimes, I still get a message that says that I have to be moderated again, comes with the this thing called a web. This is a good forum though and if ya have a little patience it'll pay off in the end.

So hopin' that your camping trip in May to CO will be a success! Stick around if you care too, this space can get busy.

                      Roughin it

                      Howdy John,
Enjoyed looking at snow scenes. Yep, looking is all I want to with snow! Here you can't shovel sunshine, guess you are chilly there, saw some reporters trying to make a big deal out of cold, guess it is if you depend on crops for an income. Did like the link you gave, nice photos. The weather people here still say we are in for a wet weekend, but we are still leaving early in the AM and won't be back till Sunday PM. If it rains, so what, no tent of mine has ever leaked and that goes for the shelters over the picnic table and the one I'm going to put over the fire-pit and the Big Gas Grill. Man, I love living out here in the golden west, every weekend we're camping! This time we are camping at Las Vegas Wash Campground. Since Lake Mead has been receding because of the drought and all the tourists deciding to live here, the camp ground used to be right on the shore of Lake Mead. Now the Lake is a good 1/2 mile away and people just don't want to camp in February when the weatherman predicts rain. Should be better than last weekend at Valley of Fire State Park. Thanks for the link to see some snow photos! Thanks for sharin'!

Hi. I live in Fort Collins.

Just consider elevation. We just had a snow here about a week ago. Friends of mine had 2 feet of snow at about 8000 feet. I went back packing in late May a some years back and had snow up to our hips as soon as we climbed a little....... More thoughts...things at a lower elevation are flooded...with people and more of the wild places are being fenced off from over use.... I would call the forest service, bureau of land management, or Rocky Mtn National Park and ask them what is open...I am serious...those guys know all of the great little nooks.... NW of Fort Collins....Redfeather Lakes used to be nice and some pond lakes up by them called Creedmore lakes..more remote....West of Lyons, Longmont, places along the peak to peak highway from Estes Park down the back roads toward Boulder, ....but you have the university youngsters from Colo State U and CU in Boulder... Eldorado Canyon....EEk I can't think of some of the place names.... Another thought is to try to find the outdoor ed depts at the universitys and ask them....just keep in mind our weather....snow last week...then....yesterday near 8o degrees....

Geez I wish my cranky old bones could go camping again....Have a great trip!

                        Linda

                          Howdy Lindacolo,
Welcome to the chat boards of camping! We hope that your stay with us will be a long and happy one. I am persoanlly glad that you took the time to register for free and join our marry throng. Colorado is a very beautiful state and I remember fly fishing when I was a teenager(about 100 years ago) at a lake called Deep Lake and was told that was the origin of the Colorado River. Even Las Vegas valley now has over 2 million people living here so any where you roam traffic is bad. But once out of the city confines...land is open and free. Hot & dry too most of the year. I can hit a dirt road and not see another auto for hours, but can climb a ridge and see the smoggy city any time I want. Welcome!

PS: Elevation considered chilly at 8,000 warm at 2015' here!

Sorry if you are on the way but when you get to Pagosa Springs go into the BLM Field Office (it used to be right on the main street). Ask for maps and about dispersed camping. Here is a link, http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/fo/sjplc.html

                            Have fun,

                            Regards,
