  • Grand Teton NP: Camping

    Howdy,
Camping here is first come, first served and is permited in five campgrounds; fees are charged. Trailers, RVs, and tents are allowed in all campgrounds except Jenny Lake, which allows only tents. Get advance reservations by mail for groups of 10 or more. Backcountry camping is permitted only in designated areas. Permits for back-country camping are required for all overnight trips.

Towering more than a mile above the valley floor known as Jackson Hole, the Grand Teton rises to 13,770' above sea level. 12 Teton peaks reach above 12,000', high enough to support a dozen glaciers. In contrast to the abrupt eastern face, the west side of the range slopes gently, showing the angle of tilt of this rectangular block of the earth's crust. Youngest of the mountains in the Rocky Mountain system, the Teton Range displays some of North America's oldest rocks.

Here are a few links to help you find great campsites. We stayed here in 1986, 1995, 2000, 2002, & 2006 and now we might go again soon. Trully remarkable in every way!

Jenny Lake Campground doesn't take reservations, so if there are many people there, you want to go early to get your campsite. When we went, it was $19 per night. There is a bathroom on-site with a few toilets and one sink. There are no showers - you have to drive to Colter Bay (about 30 min one way), where showers are $3.50 each. When we went at 6:15 pm, the showers were closed. Otherwise, it was a nice campground. A few sites have views of the Tetons, and they all have bear boxes for your food. Each site has a gravel pad for your tent, a picnic table, a parking place for one car, and a fire pit. There was a group of sites for campers without cars that cost $7/night. The campground is very convenient to the Visitor's Center, Ranger Station, Boat Dock, and General Store. There are also several trails nearby.
